Having Fun at Halls
Jude Bauer,
Hall Saddlery Store Manager
The weather is just so dreary it must be time to read a book, My favorite right now is "Hunter Seat Equitation" the 3rd edition by George Morris. I find Chapter 5 just wonderful. It's all about lateral movement, turns on the forehand and turns on the haunches, etc.
Dressage might be boring but it is vital to all disciplines. A smooth turn is a faster turn in jumping. Collection at the canter makes a better lead change in a western horse, etc. George states on the back cover that "he is continually learning from his horses, his riders, and his colleagues." It's a great and simple book to read.
An interesting situation... I read the first paragraph about George Morris on Wednesday and on Wednesday night, I attended a Dressage lesson with Joan Lueck, a Dressage Judge/Instructor. Joan was giving a lesson to a Hunt rider and talking to her about her position and I quoted Joan "George Morris would be the first one to tell you to sit correctly with the line from shoulder through the hip to the ankle." In retail we call this cross-training, combining knowledge from ALL to be better at ONE.

We had a favorite trainer contest going on in the store for the last couple of months and the winner was Cassie Jarchow (pictured above). Cassie has a lot of young and very motivated riders. My ballot box showed their enthusiasm for their trainer. Pictured with her is a gift basket from Hall's.
The next few months we are having the "Favorite Schooling Horse" competition so stop by and sign up your favorite! The winner will receive a big bag of Mrs. Pastures Horse Cookies and new brushes.
Below, we're offering a special coupon to you this month. Be sure to print it out and bring it in before the end of the month. Great for you, your family and friends this holiday season!
Happy Happy, Jude
