February 2010

New Year = New Products and Ideas from Halls!
Jude Bauer,
Hall Saddlery Store Manager
As I write this, the sun is shining and I'm feeling more upbeat - getting away from the gloomy winter. What is promising, is all of our customers that came in on football Sunday to buy Ariat Tall boots for the 2010 show season. Normally this rush starts mid February so to make deadlines, I had to send in a re-order fast (but not Jimmy John fast!).
My first customers of the day are heading to the Ledges Horse Show. This is a sign that show season has started! The New RJC blouses and Hunt coats will be coming in shortly along with many really nice and affordable Ariat clothing. You will also find fun products like t-shirts from Life is Good which should arrive in store by mid February.
Devon Aire has a very nice trail riding helmet which is similar to the Sierra; but is $20 less expensive. Those will be here soon! We are restocked in BREYERS big-time, probably our largest selection in years, so tell your kids to come and look.
Here's some ideas that can help you get through the winter:
At the barn I am at, we organized a lunch "Chili Cook Off" competition. Anyone who came to eat, throws $3 in a chili pot and winner of the best tasting chili wins it all.
Another idea... invite in a guest instructor for one lesson... for example, Hunters bring in a Dressage instructor and vice versa.
And last but also the hardest to organize... get your barn together and organize a fun show (for a summer date). Shows take a lot of organizing; so start now!
P.S Kelly Cesarz, Rachel Davis and I started a club "Does this Saddle make my Butt look to Big?" Yes, it is a "diet club" and once a week we hop on the scale at the barn. We share diet secrets and hopefully by spring we'll be LOOKING GOOD!!
P.S. March 17th is the Farmers Spring Fling in West Bend. It is a country western dance to make money for 4-H farm kids. If you look on my Facebook page you will see pictures. Last year we had a great time. And a great way to make connections for Hay (for your barn). This is an adult dance where beer and wine are served. Last year there were about 12 of us, and we danced the night away (Also called Cougar night out). I have tickets so stop by!
Save the Date for our Boot & Clothing Clinic on Saturday, March 6th. We'll start at 2:00pm and our Ariat representative Krisy Spiegelberg will be here to help you as well!
Happy Happy, Jude

Good Time for a Good Read
Kathy Hansen,
Hall Saddlery Assistant Manager
Since it's winter and lots of days are too cold to ride - or the weather is too bad to get to the barn - now is a good time to curl up with a good book. We have several good horse related fiction books, such as Coal Black Horse, Straight From The Heart, Horse as Teacher, Chicken Soup for the Horse Lovers Soul, and Horse Tales for the Soul Vol. 1 through 5. Of course, we have lots of non-fiction books, for you to learn more about your favorite subject - the horse. Some of the most popular titles are 101 Arena Exercises, 101 Dressage Exercises, 101 Longeing & Longline Exercises - all by Cherry Hill; Horse Owners Veterinary Handbook; Huntseat Equitation by George Morris and Braiding Manes & Tails. Some of the newest are Be A Smart Horse Buyer by Bob Avila; New Horse Handbook, Yoga On Horseback, Al Dunning's The Ultimate Level of Horsemanship, Human to Horsemanship by Rick Lamb; What Horses Do For Us, Eco-Horsekeeping. and Rider's Fitness Guide To A Better Seat. So if you need some reading material for these long, cold winter nights, come check out our book selection. |
